About the Oasis
To the wanderers of the desert, the oasis was a sanctuary away from the harsh realities of caravan life and a place to refresh the weary soul. These islands of tranquility were small centers of vibrant life found among the barren wastes of the desert. Historically, an oasis allowed for trade and travel to be possible in otherwise nearly inhospitable areas. They were the means by which far-flung cities would be able to travel and connect with people. It was through the oasis that the exchange of goods and ideas were made possible and through that exchange civilization flourished.
The Oasis by Ali A. Olomi is a metaphoric island by which an exchange of ideas is made possible in the sea of the internet. Here are gathered a collection of Ali A. Olomi’s thoughts, writings, and commentaries on various subjects from politics, society, entertainment, education, and much more. While the range of topics is vast, the common unifying theme is scholarship and an interest towards the historical. Many articles and posts will be geared towards the examination of the historical current behind a particular idea, or event and how the history and origins can reveal the complex nature of our present conditions. Though, we take scholarship seriously, it is the aim of these writings to make complicated events and histories accessible.
Through The Oasis, the readership will be able to connect to the author while having access to various articles and essays he has written. Further publications, updates on projects, and other newsworthy events will be made available through this website.
The Oasis is also a place where we run a variety of opinions from different points of view. We are interested in providing a platform for voices and opinions that are not always highlighted or heard in the mainstream media. In addition to political commentary and works of scholarship and history, we are keen on highlighting the personal experiences of individuals with a background or interest in the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia. We are interested in hearing pieces on how global events and political circumstances effect the daily lives of individuals whose heritage spring from this region of the world.
